Austin Eateries

Who would have thought, a girl from New Jersey who hates hot weather would end up in Texas for a summer?

I was lucky to have the chance to spend an adventurous summer in Austin, Texas where I interned for Dell at their main headquarters. Austin is completely different to any place I have ever been. It’s a lively city filled with art, mouthwatering food (tacos and BBQ of course), young people who are really into healthy lifestyles, and so much to do outdoors. While interning I was able to meet and make the best of friends from so many places ranging from Texas, California, to Florida. Being able to experience a new city with new friends was by far my favorite part.

Here are some of my favorite Austin eateries I got to experience throughout the summer:

Torchy’s Tacos: Never had I been to a place where you could get a taco named after a trailer park and make it “trashy” (with queso).  I recommend the baja shrimp taco! That was my favorite.

Jo’s Coffee Downtown: In the center of Austin, Jo’s offers yummy brunch options, coffee, great sandwiches, and draft beer. Make sure to go during happy hour!

Vinaigrette: This restaurant captivates the relaxing yet vibrant feel of Austin with its outdoor seating patio and bright colors. The salads are amazing and the homemade drinks are to die for.

The Salt Lick: If you’re looking for mouth watering ribs, brisket, sausage and basically everything you could want in famous Texas barbecue you must head here! The Salt Lick has a completely Texas feel with its long wooden tables and friendly staff.

Terry Black’s BBQ: Not many people know about Terry Black’s, but by far they have the BEST brisket and mac and cheese! It’s right downtown and Austin so you must try!

Amy’s Ice Cream: This was my go-to place especially in the 100 degree weather! With so many different flavors to choose from, Amy’s was a great treat.

Austin City Lemons: This lemonade stand, in the literal shape of a lemon, is right on South Congress. It’s the perfect spot for a refresher while shopping!

A piece of advice for anyone thinking to do an internship somewhere far away- do it! Who knows it could be the best summer you’ve ever had.
